木 is the tree/wood component, called きへん when it appears on the left. Many characters here name trees or things made from wood: 桑 “mulberry,” 桃 “peach,” and 枢 “hinge; pivot”; the link is less direct in 朱 “vermilion.”

桃 has 10 strokes. In left-side 木, make the final stroke a rising sweep toward the right.
