Desk: 几
几 is a low table or desk shape, usually placed at the bottom or side of a character; its Japanese name is つくえ. It is visible in 凡 (ordinary), 冗 (superfluous), 鳳 (mythical bird), 凱 (victory song), and 凪 (calm), but these meanings are not all about furniture; 飢 is a looser visual association.
凡 has 3 strokes, 冗 4, and 凪 6. Notice the open, hooked outline of 几.
